Butterfly valves belong to the quarter-turn rotational motion valves family and are used primarily to stop, regulate, or start the flow. The term “butterfly” in a butterfly valve is actually a disk that is connected to a rod. When this rod rotates the disk by 90° the butterfly valve opens or closes. These valves use handles, gears, or automatic actuators for operation as per the requirement.

Types of Butterfly Valves:

Efforts to adapt butterfly valves to wider temperature and pressure ranges have led to the development of a family of butterfly valves that may be fitted with seating’s of a variety of construction materials to meet the operational requirements. Such seating’s may be metal-to-polymer or metal-to-metal, and may be designed to satisfy the requirements of fire-tested valves. As per Piping Connection Design: 1. Wafer Type Butterfly Valve; 2. Lug Type Butterfly Valve; 3. Double Flange Butterfly Valve.

The use of Butterfly valves is broad and wide.
